Upon assuming his charges in Bangladesh, Libya's Ambassador Abdulmutalib Suleiman paid a visit to the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister A.K. Abdul Momen at his office on Thursday.

A statement by the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister on Facebook said that FM Abdul Momen highlighted the distinguished relationship binding the two countries and underlined the importance of continued cooperation in different sectors of mutual interest.

Both sides exchanged notes on promoting trade and investment, while FM Abdul Momen called for more contacts between the private sector and chambers of commerce.

He suggested collaboration in the garments, pharmaceuticals, and IT sectors and called on the Libyan side to consider importing jute and other goods from Bangladesh.

The head of Bangladeshi diplomacy also requested Libya to continue cooperation in the Rohingya issue.

In 2017, about 750,000 Rohingya Muslims fled to Bangladesh and other places where they live as refugees after a wave of sectarian violence erupted against them from the army and Buddhist militias in Myanmar.

For his part, ambassador Suleiman suggested forming a joint commission to follow up on areas of cooperation, as both sides agreed to enhance institutional cooperation via holding foreign office consultations and concluding mutual agreements.
