As the government is set to shift 80,000 more Rohingyas to Bhashan Char soon, it has sought a more active role of the international community to ensure all fundamental rights, including livable accommodation for the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.
Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus made the call to the global community at a meeting on the Rohingya issue at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) today, confirmed PM's Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon.
Ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries, including the USA, UK, Japan, Australia, France, Canada and Netherlands and heads of delegations of various international organisations, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the European Union (EU), were present at the meeting.
The meeting, presided over by Dr Kaikaus, was informed that the government has taken initiatives to shift 80,000 more Rohingyas staying at various camps in Cox's Bazar to Bhasan Char within the shortest possible time.
At the meeting, the principal secretary said the environment developed by the government at Bhasan Char to relocate the Rohingyas is being praised by international communities and assured of doing everything possible to ensure every basic need for the Rohingyas that included livable accommodation.
PMO Secretary Md Tofazzel Hossain Miah and secretaries concerned attended the meeting.
