8 including 7 Rohingyas arrested for selling yaba

Police also seized 900 yaba pills and Tk90,000 in cash

Police have arrested eight people, including seven Rohingyas, over yaba sale and for their suspected involvement in yaba trade in Munshiganj.

They were arrested in two separate drives on Saturday afternoon --- one at Muktarpur, and the other at Goalimandra in Louhajang.
Two of the arrestees are a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old.

The other arrestees are Nur Begum, 50, her two daughters Aju Begum, 35, and Nurjahan, 19, her daughter-in-law Zia Bal, 30, Shakila, 25, and Mohammad Rashed, 30.

Police also seized 900 yaba pills and Tk90,000 in cash during the drives.

Munshiganj Sadar police station OC Mohammad Anisur Rahman said they conducted the raids based on tip-offs, and all bar Mohammad Rashed were detained from their rented house in Muktarpur, with yaba pills in their possession.

They are displaced Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, who came to Leda refugee camp 24 in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

Mohammad Rashed was detained in a separate drive at Goalimandra in Lohajang.

The detainees have been selling yaba in various places including Munshiganj for a long time, said Anisur Rahman.

Police have filed a case against them under the Narcotics Act, and the accused have been sent to court, he added.
