Repatriation of Rohingyas would be the top priority issue during prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to China in the first week of July, foreign minister AK Abdul Momen said on Sunday.

‘Beginning repatriation of Rohingya people [to Myanmar] would be a top priority,’ he told journalists at his office, adding, ‘we’ll continue to say they should go.’

The minister said that China would support the signing arrangements with Myanmar to begin the repatriation process.

‘There is a possibility that the entire region would become pockets of instability and uncertainty unless Rohingyas are returned at the earliest,’ he said.

Abdul Momen also observed that a recent report released by ASEAN was presented with ‘twisted and distorted’ facts on Rohingya issues.

They conducted the study at only two unaffected villages of the 800 villages in Rakhine.

The foreign minister also alleged that Russia and China were opposing the initiatives at the UN Security Council to take actions against Myanmar by the global body.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will be in China on July 1 on a five-day official visit at the invitation of the Chinese government.

She would hold bilateral talks with Chinese counterpart Li Keqiang in Beijing on July 4. She is expected to call on Chinese president Xi Jinping on July 5.
