The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 24 Rohingya women and children along with 56 Bangladeshi passports.

They were arrested from a house in the Khilkhet Madhyapara area of Dhaka on Friday.

Police also arrested Kajol, son of the owner of the house, and broker Ayub, on charges of providing shelter to Rohingyas.

Confirming the matter, DB Deputy Commissioner (West Division) Mokhlesur Rahman said the Rohingyas were trying to go to Malaysia using Bangladeshi passports through the broker.

A group of organized gangs brought them to Dhaka, he added. “But still its not clear whether the passports are genuine,” he said.

We are investigating into the incident very seriously on how the Rohingyas got the passports and who are involved in the process.

DB sources said the detained Rohingyas, who were brought to Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar camps last week, have been kept in the three-storey building in Khilkhet.

They chose this house as it was very close to the airport, sources said adding that the organised brokers have brought them to Dhaka to teach them the Bengali language.

Over one million Rohingyas from Myanmar’s Rakhine state have taken shelter in Bangladesh following genocide and torture since September 2017.

However, some vested interest groups have been trying to inspire them in drug trading as well as to engage them in militancy.

Earlier, law enforcers arrested several Rohingyas from different places of the country.
