Rohingya women, adolescent girls, children and Imams as well as civil
society organizations have participated in two art and handicraft
exhibitions held in Cox’s Bazar recently.
The events, marking International Women’s Day and supported by the
Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA) working group, were held on March 7
in Darbar Hall (Rohingya Camp 4) and on March 9 in Long Beach Hotel.
Both occasions adopted a theme of ‘My future, my dream’ and honoured
the talents of adolescent women and girls from the Rohingya community,
particularly those honing creative and educational skills, through
services provided at women’s safe centres, UN Women said on Sunday.
Both events were inter-agency efforts, supported by UN Women, IOM,
UNHCR, WFP with handicraft stalls set up by multiple organizations -
BRAC, Save the Children, DanChurchAid, Research, Training and Management
International -RTMI, Relief International, Oxfam, Action Aid, Terre des
hommes, Gonno Unayan Kendro (GUK), UNFPA and Mukti, Cox’s Bazar.
Handicraft items on display included scarves, decorative beads and nokshi kathas (decorated fabric).
Children enjoyed themselves and spent some time flying kites.
