Opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday alleged that the present government that was ‘illegally’ clinging to power was gradually ‘failing’ to protect Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty after Myanmar repeatedly showed Saint Martin’s island as its part.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the remarks at a news briefing at the party central office at Nayapaltan.

He said that Myanmar was also showing audacity over Bangladesh due to the submissive foreign policy of the government.

Rizvi said Myanmar, again and again, was showing the St Martin’s island on its map in government websites.

‘Will we do nothing as Myanmar wants to make the land of Bangladesh as part of their country,’ the BNP leader said.

He said it is not enough to registrar protest summoning the ambassador, saying that this is a direct attack on the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh.

The issue was not placed strongly before the international arena, he said, adding that Myanmar staged the incident of showing St Martin’s island on its map more than once.

He said that the incumbent, isolated government got silent after registering a mere protest.

The Rohingya crisis was not being resolved due to the subservient

policy of the government, Rizvi said.

About the recent clash between BGB and villagers at border area in Thakurgaon district, the BNP leader said that when the family members of those killed were grieving the paramilitary troops filed two cases against 272 people.

He pointed out that the names of Nawab Ali, a teacher and Sadeq Ali, a farmer, who were killed by BGB firing, were also drafted in the general diary of a case.

Rizvi alleged that the area had become devoid of male in panic.

He questioned how BGB could shot dead four innocent villagers merely for two cows.
