Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have rescued 30 Rohingyas—including women and children—who were attempting to travel to Malaysia from Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

BGB members, in separate drives, detained 32 people—30 Rohingyas and two Bangladeshi alleged human traffickers—from the Shah Porir Dwip, Bholar char, and Shilkhali coastal areas in Teknaf around 6am on Friday.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Teknaf’s BGB 2 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Asaduzzaman Chowdhury said the rescued Rohingya people had been lured by human traffickers and attempted to travel to Malaysia.

“Of the 32 people, 30 are Rohingyas and two are Bangladeshi traffickers,” he said.

Of the 30 Rohingyas, six are male, 17 female, and seven children; BGB did not provide further details about their identities.

“The rescued people are being questioned to identify why and how they planned the journey,” he added.
