37 more Rohingyas arrive from India

Rohingyas continued to enter Bangladesh from India, where many of the ethnic minority people of Myanmar had taken shelter fleeing violence and ethnic cleansing in their homeland in Rakhine state, to avoid forcible deportation to Rakhine.

At least 37 more Rohingyas arrived at Kutupalong camp under Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar in 48 hours until Friday evening.

Camp officials sent the newcomers to UNHCR transit camp at Gungdum of Naikhyangchari in Bandarban, closed to Kutupalong camp.

Kutupalong camp in-charge Mohammad Rezaul Karim said that 19 Rohingyas arrived at Kutupalong refugee camp on Friday.

The new arrivals informed the camp officials that they came to Bangladesh to avoid India’s attempt to push them back to Myanmar, an official said.

With this, 111 Rohingyas arrived at the transit camp in the past eight days as they entered Bangladesh through Brahmanpara border in Cumilla and Balonia border in Feni from Agartala and South Tripura states on India respectively, they said.

Asked if India pushed the Rohingyas into Bangladesh, Border Guard Bangladesh and police officials in bordering Feni and Cumilla claimed that they were not aware of any push in involving Rohingyas from India.
