The documentary "My Rohingya" tells the story of a woman reporter from Thailand whose coverage of the Rohingya people began in early 2009 after the Western media reported about alleged maltreatment by Thai naval soldiers on Muslim Rohingya refugees from Burma's Arakan State.

The soldiers were said to put illegal Rohingya immigrants aboard boats with no engines and leave them in the high sea to fend for themselves. The Western media reports led to widespread condemnation against such "inhumane act".

In order to know more about the Rohingyas than in the news, the Thai reporter turned herself into a "backpacking journalist", travelling to different places to meet Rohingya immigrants of different ages in a bid to find out why they decided to leave their motherland. Some of them have lived in Thailand for almost 30 years while newcomers just arrived in the country six months earlier.

The reporter also left Thailand and travelled to a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh, which has accepted the largest number of Rohingya refugees.

Her journey for a distance of many kilometres allows the reporter to better understand the Rohingyas and changes the way she thinks as a professional reporter.
