( 03.10.2018 ) Rohingya- a forgotten crisis ( Voice of Islam. )

Join Raza Ahmed for Tuesday's show where we will be discussing:

Rohingya- a forgotten crisis
In this show we discuss the circumstances that lead to the genocide of the Muslim Rohingya population in Myanmar. We will look into the situation faced by the refugees who have found safe passage in Bangladesh as well as looking at the help provided by governmental and non governmental bodies.
Has the level of scrutiny placed on Myanmar by the international community been adequate and in line with the Islamic themes of justice, war, conduct of war, prisoners of war etc. Further, we will also look at Islamic teachings on how to protect the most vulnerable in war time, in stark contrast to the abuses committed against women and children in Myanmar.

Modern Slavery on the rise
What was supposed to be history, is still our present - we will we be discussing the various aspects of modern day slavery, as well as the roots to slavery and the Islamic perspective on slavery and its abolishment. Islam is often misunderstood in terms of its teachings on slavery when in actuality, it’s teachings mentioned in the Holy Quran would be means of rooting out slavery even today.

Guests Include:

Jamila Hanan: (Human Rights activist)

Ro Nay San Lwin: (A coordinator for Free Roghingya Coalition and human rights activist and blogger)

DC Colin Ward: (Victim Advocacy and Support Specialist for the Modern Slavery Police Transformation Unit)

Dr Anita: (spokesperson for the European Rohingya Council)

Produced by: Bareya Khan and Ulia Choudhry
