SEPANG: Malaysian superbikers unite! Three hundred Malaysian superbikers, who collectively call themselves WE BIKERS, have pledged to raise at least RM30,000 for the “Food Flotilla for Myanmar” charity fund.

The humanitarian project - held in collaboration with Kelab Putra 1Malaysia, World of Motions and SBK Motoworks, aims to deliver rice, medical aid and other essential items to the marginalised Rohingya community in Myanmar’s Rakhine state.

“We are targeting a minimum collection of RM30,000 from concerned superbikers across the country,” said Datuk Razali Ramli, who is Kelab Putra 1Malaysia information chief during a superbikers' get-together at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this afternoon.

“The funds are a combination of personal donations and money raised from various fundraising events organisedby by our superbiker friends.”

An ardent superbiker, Razali has personally visited Rakhine while on his humanitarian mission twice. “The Myanmar government has given us a little bit of flexibility in channeling humanitarian aid to the Rohingya,” he said.

The targeted RM30,000 donation in cash and kind will be delivered to Rakhine on January 10 via boat. Azwan Ariffin, a representative of WE BIKERS, said RM5,000 has been raised since the superbikers kick-started their fundraising efforts a week ago.

“We are expecting more donations to come in. WE BIKERS symbolise the unity between all superbikers and superbiker clubs in Malaysia. It’s a community of bikers which transcends racial, gender and bike type barriers,” he said.

“We are trying to help the needy as much as we can – be they the Rohingya or the local communities. A lot of people may not know this, but we superbikers have been (quietly) raising funds for the local orphanages and surau during our weekend rides, such as in Baling (Kedah) and Johor.”
