Press Release

The United States, through USAID, will provide $87 million in additional humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh, specifically in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char. This additional support brings U.S. humanitarian assistance in response to the Rohingya crisis to nearly $2.4 billion since the outbreak of violence in August 2017, including nearly $1.9 billion to assist Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh.

This funding includes critically needed food and nutrition assistance, as well as refugee camp infrastructure maintenance and support for disaster risk reduction activities in coordination with the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP). Combined with contributions from other donors, this funding will enable WFP to increase food rations for the nearly one million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. The USAID-funded food assistance includes electronic vouchers for staple and fresh foods at designated distribution sites and access to feeding programs for malnourished children and pregnant and lactating women.

The United States is the leading contributor of humanitarian assistance to the people impacted by this crisis. We will continue to work to reach the most vulnerable with aid and call on other donors to join us to meet these critical needs.
