The Japan government has said it will provide 10 million US dollars in emergency grant aid to support the displaced Rohingya refugees and host communities in Bangladesh.
Of the total grant, 5 million US dollars will be provided to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), 4.3 million US dollars to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and 0.7 million US dollars will be provided to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for humanitarian assistance, according to a press release of Japanese Embassy received today (Thursday).
This aid is expected to contribute to support for the displaced Rohingya living in severe humanitarian situation as well as the host communities in Cox’s Bazar in the areas of food distribution to approximately 345,000 people, rehabilitation of the shelters of approximately 14,000 people, and provision of medical and sanitation equipment to 9 hospitals and 3 health facilities.
With the latest support, Japan has contributed a total of 155 million US dollars to humanitarian assistance in Cox’s Bazar since the massive influx of refugees into Bangladesh in August 2017.
