People should think and analyse who has brought progress to the region and what kind of Hyderabad they want, said TRS party working president KT Rama Rao

Hyderabad: Telangana government over the last six years has not only taken care of the basic amenities of the people such as electricity, water, roads and support to farmers but also made strides across spheres of society and industries. And it is time for people to think before they ink (vote). They should think and analyse who has brought progress to the region and what kind of Hyderabad they want, said TRS party working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday.

Participating in an interactive meeting with Mak Projects MD on ‘Transforming Hyderabad into a global city’, KTR said, “When the State was formed, we not only wanted to prove to ourselves but also to naysayers who questioned our ability and vision for the State. Since then, we have achieved success in all the spheres.”

From a power deficit State in 2014 with just 7,000 MW capacity, the State now has 16,000 MW. Having a renewable energy capacity of just 45 MW, Telangana now has created a base for 4,000 MW, making the State number one in terms of land mass. Drinking water supply has also significantly improved in the State in the last six years. Hyderabad had only one water reservoir for the last 100 years and none of the previous governments realised the need to build additional capacities. Telangana government has initiated works on Keshavapuram reservoir which will ensure adequate water supply for the city up to 2050.

Growth engine

Hyderabad is a historical city with rich heritage and culture and also new age vibrancy unlike many other cities in the country. The city has given livelihood to millions of people and remains one of the top most economic engines of the country.

The city has been growing rapidly and the government has been able to attract marquee names in business to the city such as Google, Apple, Amazon, Uber, Facebook, Micron and Salesforce, which have established their second largest bases outside their headquarters.

“We have showcased the strengths of the city and pitched to these companies how Hyderabad is better than its counterparts. Telangana Chief Minister who constantly interacted with the industry came out with revolutionary fast-track clearance system in the form of TS-iPASS to ease doing business in the State. No other State’s CM has introduced such a trendsetting system. TS-iPASS helped attract significant investments.”

Welfare of people

The State has focused on ensuring law and order. The CM has revamped the entire police force, with advanced vehicles and command centres. UK-based Comparetech in its study has named Hyderabad as the 16th most surveilled city in the world with 5 lakh CCTVs.

In addition to this, the government, for the welfare of different sections of society, has introduced schemes such as Basti Dawakhanas, Annapurna canteens, Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak. KTR said India is a heterogenous country. “We have Ambani as well as the poorest people. The fundamental responsibility of the government is to take care of the vulnerable sections and people in the below poverty line. We believe in balancing the society in such a way that people of all economic classes co-exist,” he added.

In the last six years, the government has invested Rs 67,000 crore within the GHMC purview. BJP has not done anything for the city of Hyderabad. On the other hand, Telangana paid in taxes to the Centre Rs 2,72,000 crore and received in the form of devolution Rs 1,40,000 crore.

He said BJP party leaders who did not come to Hyderabad to support the flood victims in Hyderabad recently are now paying visit to the city for GHMC elections. BJP, which is now talking about Rohingya infiltration into Hyderabad, should answer what their government was doing at the Centre.

Economy

On the economy front, PM’s Jan Dhan initiative has not benefited any. The recent announcement of Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package has not reached any needy. The BJP leaders who are visiting Hyderabad should thank Hyderabadis for their tax contribution.

The disastrous economic policies of the Centre have crippled the nation, which had led to eight quarters of slowdown followed by lockdown, pushing the economy into recession. Centre’s disinvestment policy is letting sale of large firms such as Air India and LIC rather than protecting their interest.
