Providing for the Rohingya

The Rohingya have not received the adequate amount of support needed from the world
The Rohingya crisis has gone on for long enough.

With over 1.1 million Rohingya taking shelter within our borders, it has become increasingly unsustainable for Bangladesh, a nation with limited resources, to provide the necessary food, aid, and shelter.

Additionally, we cannot help but agree with the PM that this poses serious threats to national security, with the existence of an increasingly frustrated Rohingya population, desperate to go back home.

In such a scenario, it is up to the international community to play its part and ensure that Bangladesh receives the support it so thoroughly needs and deserves.

This means prioritizing the need for the Rohingya repatriation, a process which has been continuously delayed by Myanmar with little to no consequence.

Unfortunately, the Rohingya have not received the adequate amount of support needed from the world.

One of the initiatives taken to provide this support was the Joint Response Plan -- the purpose of which was to cover expenses for the Rohingya in 2019 -- but, of the $920.5 million target set, it is a travesty that a little over 25% of the target has been met six months into the year.

There is no denying that Bangladesh has gone beyond the call of duty to ensure that the Rohingya -- who have fled some of the most brutal forms of persecution imaginable -- are provided for.

In this regard, the least the world can do is to provide a greater portion of the funding and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.
