UAE minister visits Rohingya camps

UAE State Minister for International Cooperation Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy visited a Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.

She also visited Rohingya refugee communities and UAE-sponsored Malaysian Field Hospital in the district’s Ukhiya upazila.

Later, she met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Gono Bhaban.

During the meeting, both Hasina and Reem expressed their firm optimism on Bangladesh-UAE bilateral relations.

According to a press release of UAE Embassy in Dhaka, the UAE state minister also visited Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.

Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy, also the director general of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, was accompanied by Assistant Minister of International Cooperation Sultan AL Shamsi during her visit to Bangladesh.

Reem also visited UNHCR Representative in Bangladesh Steven Corlliss and Senior Advisor to the Representative of World Food Programme Naila Sattar yesterday and discussed severity of Rohingya situation with them to assess the humanitarian needs of the refugees.

From the beginning of the Rohingya crisis, UAE has extended its support to emergency food relief for Rohingya women and children in Bangladesh thorough UNHCR, Sharjah Media Corporation, Médecins Sans Frontières, Big Heart Foundation, Hope Foundation, Kuwait Society for Relief, Khalifa Foundation, Red Crescent, UAE and others.

The UAE State Minister Reem is expected to return home today.
