Eight Rohingya women were apprehended by the police near the Vairenti police check gate along the Assam-Mizoram border.
Reports stated that the police were carrying out their routine checking of vehicles when they discovered that eight ladies were travelling without any valid documents.
On being grilled, the women revealed that they hailed from Myanmar and had entered India through the Tripura-Bangladesh border without any valid documents.

The women have been identified as Sharmila, Atrija, Chanbhar, Sheikhu, Tajmi, Nurkhayas, Toiba, and Rubina.

The women were travelling from Silchar to Mizoram in a vehicle bearing the registration No – AS 11BC 0951 – and were apprehended on being suspected to be foreigners.
Earlier, 30 Rohingyas were apprehended by the Assam Police from the Assam-Tripura border in January this year.
The group of Rohingyas, consisting of male, female and children, were apprehended by the police of Churaibari Police Station while they were moving towards Guwahati by bus from Agartala.
One of the apprehended Rohingyas informed that they had come from Jammu to Agartala via Delhi and Guwahati in search of work but even after staying for three days in a hotel they did not get any work in Agartala.
