Myanmar cannot accept aid shipments carrying food and emergency supplies for Rohingya Muslims from the advisory council of Islamic organisations in Malaysia, said Lieutenant General Kyaw Swe, the military-appointed minister of home affairs.
“We can’t accept their support. It is meaningless.They must come here after connecting between the two governments. It is not acceptable to come to Rakhine State because they want to. If they [the Malaysians] want to come to Rakhine State, they need to connect officially with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are insulting the sovereignty of our country. No country could accept this kind of act,” said Kyaw Swe.
The shipments were due to leave on January 10.
The groups must apply for official permission and follow the government’s rules, said Zaw Htay, spokesman for the President’s Office.
