India on Thursday slammed UN human rights experts who "condemned" the Indian government's decision to deport three Rohingya to Myanmar and said that the statements by them are misleading and incorrect. Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, while responding to a query, also claimed that New Delhi's action is in accordance with Indian laws.

Buthidaung — At least twenty Rohingya Genocide survivors were reported to have been killed and forty other wounded in a gunship attack by the Myanmar military in Buthidaung Township on Wednesday (Apr 3). 

The attack took place at around 2:30 pm of the day when a Myanmar military gunship arrived and is said to have deliberately fired on a group of Rohingya villagers cutting bamboos and making rafts in the forest nearby 'Saing Din' river in southeastern Buthidaung.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) wants to play a leading role in the repatriation of Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh, a minister said late Wednesday.

“Thailand is the current chair of ASEAN. They are willing to take a leading role in the Rohingya repatriation process,” Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said at a press briefing following a meeting with his Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai in Dhaka, local media reported.

A helicopter attack by Myanmar’s army on Wednesday killed at least 10 Rohingya Muslims and injured more than a dozen others in violence-wracked Rakhine state, the latest civilian casualties in the armed conflict between government soldiers and the rebel Arakan Army (AA), local villagers told RFA’s Myanmar Service.

The latest incident occurred in a valley in Buthidaung township, near a village that was home to Rohingya Muslim families

Villagers and a lawmaker in Myanmar’s troubled Rakhine state said on Thursday that a military helicopter attacked a group of Rohingya Muslims gathering bamboo, killing five and wounding 13, but a military spokesman declined to comment.

Facebook Inc. has admitted it did not do enough to prevent the incitement of ethnic violence in Myanmar nearly two years ago, but it still has not taken enough steps to stop the spread of hate on its platform, a United Nations investigator says. “Facebook’s actions can only be described as minimal. It was as though the approach was apologize after the fact rather than try to prevent it in the first place.” Christopher Sidoti, U.N. investigator Hatred stoked on Facebook led to a military-led genocide against Myanmar’s Rohingya minority, the U.N. has said.
