Bangladesh has urged the European Union to put more pressure on Myanmar to take back Rohingya refugees living in makeshift camps in Cox's Bazar.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen made the appeal during a courtesy phone call with Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Coveney yesterday, said a press statement issued by the foreign ministry.

The $35 million grant will go towards providing work opportunities and community services to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

The World Bank (WB) has provided $35 million to Bangladesh to help ensure basic services and utilities for the Rohingyas currently residing in Teknaf and Ukhiya upazilas of Cox's Bazar.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has partnered with the UN World Food Program (WFP) to support community resilience in the Rohingya camps here.

The UN World Food Programme will implement a $35 million project to provide work opportunities and community services among the Rohingya population in Cox's Bazar.

This funding is part of the World Bank's $165 million grant meant to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. The WFP is partnering with the disaster management ministry to implement the project.

A court in South American country of Argentina has decided to pursue a case against Myanmar’s leader Aung Sang Suu Kyi and senior officers in the military over the genocide and persecution against Rohingya community.


In a statement issued on Monday, Burmese Rohingya Organization UK (BROUK) said that Argentina’s Federal Criminal Chamber No. 1 has accepted its petition and asked to collect more information on the Rohingya genocide.

The court, in its decision on May 29, overturned a previous order when it had rejected to admit a similar petition seeking to probe the role of Myanmar leadership in the acts of genocide.

LEICESTER, United Kingdom - The British government is being called on to assist religious minorities around the world who are facing further hardship due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“COVID-19 is adding to the pressures already felt by religious minorities, is making them more vulnerable, and their situation even more challenging,” said a letter sent to Lord Tariq Ahmad, who head the Commonwealth and United Nations section of the UK’s Foreign Office.

An Argentine court has moved one step closer to opening a historic investigation against Myanmar's military and civilian leadership over genocide against the Rohingya people, the Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK (BROUK) said today.

The court in Buenos Aires on Friday overturned a previous decision not to pursue a case against State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and senior officers in the Myanmar military. Instead, it has requested more information from the International Criminal Court (ICC) to ensure that a case in Argentina would not duplicate other justice efforts, BROUK said in a statement.

A Rohingya man died from coronavirus infection while undergoing treatment at the isolation centre at Ukhiya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Monday night.

The deceased could not be identified immediately but he was a 71 year old man, said Abu Toha MRH Bhuiyan, health coordinator of the Refugee, Relief and Rehabilitation Commission.
