New Delhi: Myanmar civilian leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi will be present at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague from 10-12 December to personally defend her government from allegations of genocide, her office announced.

A lawsuit has been filed by Gambia at the world court alleging that Myanmar has carried out mass murders, rapes and arson against the Rohingyas in the country’s Rakhine state, where the ethnic Muslim minority resides.

MALACCA: It is estimated that about 5,000 Rohingya refugees are in Malacca, to date, the Malacca State Assembly was told today.

However, Chief Minister, Adly Zahari (pix) said that according to the Malaysian Rohingya Council (MRM) not all were registered with the United Nations High Comission for Refugees (UNHCR).

Myanmar journalists on trial for reporting alleged chemical weapons factory

YANGON (Reuters) - Myanmar police have charged five journalists with “disclosing state secrets” after their newspaper carried a story about an alleged chemical weapons factory, state media reported Sunday.

The trial of four reporters and the head of Unity Journal began on February 14 in Pakokku, a town in the country’s central region where the military facility is located, the state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper said.

Dhaka has asked Naypyidaw to stop concocting campaigns against Bangladesh and focus on creating an environment in Rakhine conducive to sustained repatriation and reintegration of the Rohingyas.

Myanmar [1]’s Rohingya crisis is sliding dangerously backwards. The denial of civil rights, a massive land grab and an upsurge in armed fighting undermine any real hope for change.

Despite reports that some Rohingya refugees [2] have returned to Myanmar, the suggestion that more will follow stands in stark contrast to what I witnessed recently when visiting the areas from which they fled. International solidarity with these stateless people needs a fundamental rethink. If we succeed to only administer the crisis, we will fail to ever resolve it.
