GENEVA - The U.N. refugee agency reports more than half-a-million Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh have received identity documents that will give them better access to aid.

An estimated 900,000 Rohingya refugees are living in overcrowded, squalid camps in the town of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh. Most of them fled there two years ago to escape persecution and violence in Myanmar.

New Delhi, Aug 8 Bangladesh on Thursday cautioned that the Rohingya crisis could emerge as a threat to peace and security in the region and pressed for its early resolution by repatriating the refugees to their home country.

Addressing a conference on ''Tackling Insurgent Ideologies'', Syed Muazzem Ali, Bangladesh''s High Commissioner to India, hoped for an immediate and effective implementation of the agreement signed between Myanmar and the United Nations to resolve the crisis.

More than half a million Rohingya refugees have received identity documents, most for the first time, until Wednesday.

The registration process is being carried out by the Bangladesh authorities with the support of the UN refugee agency, UNHCR.

Fighting between the Tatmadaw (military) and the Arakan Army (AA) in Rakhine State’s Minbya township has intensified and the number of refugees has increased to nearly 6000 over the past 10 days, a state official said on Tuesday.

Minbya township MP U Hla Thein Aung said that aid for the refugees is urgently needed.

A United Nations report has revealed that a British company sold more than £70,000 worth of navigation technology to the Burmese army, which is accused of carrying out genocide and war crimes against the Rohingya.

ရခိုင်ပြည်နယ်မှာ စစ်ဆင်ရေးတွေ စတင်ပြီး ရက်သတ္တပတ် အနည်းငယ်အကြာ မှာမြန်မာနိုင်ငံက ကုမ္ပဏီများနဲ့ အဖွဲ့အစည်းပေါင်း ၄၅ ခုက မြန်မာ့တပ်မတော်ကို ဒေါ်လာ ၁၀ သန်းကျော်တန် အလှူငွေများ ပေးခဲ့တယ်လို့ အစီရင်ခံစာမှာ အသေးစိတ်ဖော်ပြထားပါတယ် ။

Bangladesh, September, 2017: Rohingya refugees carry supplies along a muddy path after fleeing neighbouring Myanmar. Today, two years of humanitarian crisis have driven hundreds of thousands of Rohingya, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority, into teeming refugee camps.
