အိမ်ခြေ ၁၀၀ ကျော်ရှိသည့် ဘူးသီးတောင်မြို့နယ် သိုင်းတပုတ်ကျေးရွာမှ ရွာသား ၄၀၀ ကျော်သည် ရွာ အနီး တွင် လက်နက်ကြီးကျည်များ ကျရောက်ပေါက်ကွဲသဖြင့် ရွာကို စွန့်ခွာ ထွက်ပြေးသွားခဲ့ကြသည်ဟု သတင်းရရှိသည်။

ဇီးခေါင်းရွာသို့ ထွက်ပြေးခိုလုံလာသည့် ရွာသူ အမျိုးသမီး တစ်ဦးက “ ရွာမှာ အဖိုးကြီး တစ်ဦးနဲ့ အဖွားကြီး တစ်ဦးတော့ ကျန်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ရွာသားတွေ အားလုံးက ကြောက်ပြီး ထွက်ပြေးလာပါတယ်။ အခု ကျွန်မတို့ ဆိုရင် ဇီးခေါင်းကို ရောက်ရှိလာသလို တစ်ချို့ ဆိုရင် သမီးလှရွာ၊ မညှင်းတောင်ရွာ၊ ကုန်တန်းရွာတွေကို ရောက်သွားပါတယ်” ဟု နိရဉ္စရာသို့ ပြောကြားသည်။

“A total of 495 nationals of different countries are now languishing in Bangladesh jails,” he said at a seminar titled “Combating Trafficking: Repatriation of Victims of Trafficking” in the city.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday reiterated her firm stance on Rohingya repatriation, saying the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals must go back to their homeland.

“The Rohingya nationals, who took shelter in Bangladesh, must return to their homeland in Myanmar’s Rakhaine State,” she said when visiting UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimy paid a courtesy call on her at her official residence, the Gono Bhaban, in the capital last evening.

DOHA: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, announced yesterday a major individual contribution of more than $35 million from Qatari businessman Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah bin Thani Al Thani for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and displaced Yemenis.

The donation, which is the largest UNHCR has received from an individual, covers a one-year cooperation agreement and two grant agreements and is worth US$ 35,215,260.

The Election Commission, or EC, has adopted special measures in 32 Upazilas in southern Bangladesh to prevent Rohingya refugees from being listed as voters in the updated electoral roll.

The EC issued a 10 point directive to its field officials to implement the measures on Thursday during a coordination meeting before collecting data to update the voter roll on Apr 23.

The 32 Upazilas in Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, and Chattogram have been declared ‘special areas’ for the upcoming survey, EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed told the media.

YANGON — Two civilians in northern Rakhine State’s Mrauk-U Township were wounded by shrapnel from artillery fire after the Myanmar Army began shooting and shelling in the area on Wednesday night and into Thursday, according to locals.

Mrauk-U resident Ko Than Tun said about 460 people fled Baungdwat Village, about 3 km south of the township’s urban center, on Thursday and have taken shelter at the Myothit monastery in central Mrauk-U.
