 YANGON—The wife of a Myanmar military major, Maj. Kyaw Swar, who had recently arrived in strife-torn northern Rakhine State’s Buthidaung Township, was killed in an explosion at their home on Tuesday morning.

Japan has decided to give US $32.5 million for the Rohingya refugees sheltered in Bangladesh due to persecution in Myanmar.

Japanese government took the decision for additional support to the refugees on February 7, said a press release of Japan embassy in Dhaka.

YANGON — The Office of the Commander-in-Chief said a Myanmar military major was killed during fighting with the Arakan Army (AA) in northern Rakhine State’s Buthidaung Township Friday night, near where the rebel group killed 13 border police officers in early January.

Brig. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, a spokesman with the office, identified the dead officer as Maj. Aung Ko Nyein.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said Myanmar is not working as per its commitment with Bangladesh on the repatriation of their Rohingya nationals to their homeland.

DHAKA—Armed assailants shot dead one Rohingya paramedic and injured a computer technician at the Muchuni camp in Teknaf sub-district of Cox’s Bazar on Friday evening for allegedly sharing information about the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) military commander Nurul Alam who was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) earlier the same day.

EU to propose action at UNHRC session

The European Union is likely to propose specific actions against Myanmar over the Rohingya crisis during the 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

“The EU might seek steps against Myanmar top military officials for human rights violations in line with recommendations made by the UN Fact Finding Mission,” said a Bangladeshi diplomat in Geneva where the session would begin today.
