Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said international pressure on Myanmar would continue for a permanent solution to the protracted Rohingya crisis as the issue was widely discussed in the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.

She said: "The issue of the Rohingya crisis and its permanent solution was discussed elaborately in the UNGA session which I believe will help to continue global pressure on Myanmar for bringing back their Rohingya nationals from Bangladesh."

A Cox’s Bazar court on Sunday placed two people on a three-day remand in a case over the killing Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah.

Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah passed the order in the morning.

Those remanded are—Mohamamd Selim alias Lamba Selim and Shawkat Ullah.

Earlier on Saturday, police produced them before the judge with a 7-day remand prayer, said court inspector Chandan Kumar Chakrawarty.

U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet is calling on Bangladeshi authorities to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation into the killing of Rohingya activist Mohib Ullah while he was visiting a Cox’s Bazaar refugee camp in Bangladesh earlier this week.

Bachelet paid tribute to the prominent human rights defender, who she said spent his life fighting to end decades of discrimination against the Rohingya people. She said Ullah lost his life while seeking to restore his people’s basic rights in Myanmar, including their rights to nationality, land, health, and education.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said arms are coming into the country from Myanmar in various ways in an attempt to create "instability" in the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar.


However, he claimed that the law and order situation in the camps is "good enough" and that the killers of Rohingya refugee leader Mohammad Mohib Ullah will be brought to justice "soon".

The home minister's remarks came on Sunday after a meeting at the Secretariat on the security measures surrounding Durga Puja.

BANGLADESHI foreign minister AK Abdul Momen on October 2 vowed to bring the killers of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah to justice soon.

He said a vested quarter killed Mohib Ullah as he wanted to return to his home country of Myanmar.

"The government will take stern action against those involved in the killing. Nobody will be spared," he said.

This was the minister's first remarks after the global condemnation of the Rohingya leader's murder.

“The killers will certainly be brought to justice. None will be spared,” Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Saturday, three days after the murder of Mohib Ullah, the head of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH).

The search for the killers of Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah continues in Bangladesh.

Police in Bangladesh have arrested three suspects believed to have links to an armed insurgent group among Rohingya refugees, as officials promised justice for the killers of a prominent Rohingya rights activist.

The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has detained another Rohingya man in connection with the killing of Rohingya community leader Mohammad Mohib Ullah in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya.

Thirty-five-year-old Mohammad Ilias was taken into custody around noon on Sunday, said APBn Captain and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Naimul Haq.

The detainee will be questioned, he said.

Law enforcers have detained a total of five suspects over Mohib Ullah’s death.

A group of unidentified gunmen killed the 48-year-old Mohib Ullah at a refugee camp in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya on Sept 30.

He is now part of the military junta, the opposition front of the “National Unity Government” (NUG), and they rely on this controversy of central powers, which is being transformed into imperialism in the form of “diplomacy”: ONU. The real opposition to the coup arose as young people fighting in the streets against military tanks, their workers in factories and textile workshops went on strike.

Mohib Ullah, a Rohingya community leader who believed in the power of data to confront the brutality of ethnic cleansing, died on Wednesday, shot by gunmen in a bamboo and tarp shelter in Kutupalong, Bangladesh, the world’s biggest refugee camp. He was 46.

The gunmen had burst into his shack before opening fire, according to his brother, Habib Ullah, who was with Mr. Mohib Ullah at the time. The shack was stacked high with papers documenting massacres of Rohingya, the Muslim minority native to neighboring Myanmar.

A leader of the Rohingya Muslim community was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, prompting calls from rights advocates for an investigation.

Mohib Ullah, who his colleagues say was 48 years old, was among the most high-profile advocates for the Rohingya, a stateless minority from Myanmar that was targeted in a 2017 military offensive that forced more than 740,000 to flee to neighboring Bangladesh. United Nations investigators have called for Myanmar army leaders to face genocide charges over the attacks.

Sept 29 (Reuters) - Gunmen shot and killed a prominent Rohingya Muslim leader in a refugee camp in southern Bangladesh on Wednesday, a United Nations spokesperson and a local police official said, following months of worsening violence in the world's largest refugee settlement.

Mohib Ullah, who was in his late 40s, led one of the largest of several community groups to emerge since more than 730,000 Rohingya Muslims fled Myanmar after a military crackdown in August 2017.

Duterte says PH willing to aid Afghan, Rohingya refugees

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte vowed Wednesday that the Philippines is willing to extend assistance to Afghan and Rohingya refugees.

While the Philippines has limited resources, it will do its best to “uplift human dignity,” Duterte said in a prerecorded speech delivered during the 76th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

“The imposition of one’s will over another -- no matter how noble the intent -- has never worked in the past. And it never will in the future,” Duterte said.
