Bangladesh and Indonesia on Thursday stressed early signing of Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) within the ambit of which potential export items from both countries would be allowed to enter duty free.
The two countries agreed to complete the signing of pending MoUs and agreements on a fast-track basis, pursue sector specific agenda and do the needful to expand the volume of bilateral trade and investment.

Bangladesh Coast Guard members yesterday rescued 30 Rohingyas, who were trying to go to Malaysia illegally by a trawler through the Bay of Bengal, in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf.
The Rohingyas include 10 women and five children. They were residents of
The coastguards also seized the trawler.
Quoting the refugees, Amirul Haque, an official of Coast Guard's media wing, told reporters that around 50 Rohingyas boarded the trawler from the beaches in Teknaf and Ukhia upazilas on April 22.
The trawler illegally started for Malaysia on Monday night and at one stage, the trawler driver shouted that robbers had been chasing them and anchored it on Boro Dail beach yesterday morning.

Turkey's state-run aid agency sent relief to 1,000 Rohingya families living in a refugee camp in Bangladesh, the organization announced on Monday.
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) said in a statement that the aid was provided as part of a campaign initiated for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

A Rohingya youth named Mohammad Ibrahim was killed reportedly in a gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members on Bangladesh-Myanmar border at Ghumdhum in Naikhongchhari, an upazila in Bandarban adjacent to Cox's Bazar district.
BGB says the deceased was a yaba peddler. He was from Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

Bangladesh raises concern over UK’s travel ‘red list’

The Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem has briefed UK's all-party parliamentary group (APPG) about the inconvenience caused by UK's travel ban that has put Bangladesh among those nations on its "red list".
She said the decision will seriously hurt bilateral trade in the apparel, food and beverage sectors and also emergency medical treatment.
On April 2, the UK said it would put Bangladesh, Kenya, Pakistan and the Philippines on its travel "red list," banning entry to people arriving from those countries unless they are Britons or Irish.

The controversial island relocation plan points to the challenges facing the resolution of the refugee crisis in southeastern Bangladesh.
The United Nations refugee agency is urging Bangladesh to slow down its relocation of Rohingya refugees to an island in the Bay of Bengal until measures to protect residents from storms and flooding are fully in place, BenarNews reported on Friday.
Since December, the government has moved a total of 18,304 Rohingya from the crowded refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar district, close to the border with Myanmar, to Bhasan Char, an island lying some 34 kilometers offshore.
According to the report, a team from the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) visited the Bhasan Char in mid-March and acknowledged that the government had made “extensive investments” in infrastructure and safeguards on the flood-prone island, but said further improvements were necessary

The United Nations refugee agency is urging Bangladesh to slow down its relocation of Rohingya to a low-lying island because measures to protect residents from storms and flooding are not fully in place, UNHCR in Dhaka told BenarNews on Friday.
Meanwhile, the foreign minister said, international agencies must help foot the cost of housing what could eventually be 100,000 refugees on Bhashan Char, an island in the Bay of Bengal. So far, Bangladesh’s government has covered that cost.

On April 1, Indian authorities were greeted with a surprise when their request to deport a Rohingya girl was turned down by Myanmar.
Immigration officials in Myanmar refused to accept the 14-year-old girl on the ground that the border gate between the two countries had been shut for the last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the situation in their country was not suitable for the proceedings to take place.

A Turkish charity on Monday distributed 15,000 food packets to Rohingya refugees and their hosts in Bangladesh for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan set to begin this week, said officials of the group, which is tied to Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate or Diyanet.
“For the 2021 Ramadan program we distributed 11,800 food packets for the Rohingya community. But we didn't forget the host community. We distributed 3,200 food packages for our Bangladeshi brothers and sisters,” Oguzhan Adsiz, the Bangladesh coordinator for Turkey’s Diyanet Foundation (TDF), told Anadolu Agency on Monday night.

John Kerry came to Dhaka for a few hours. The Obama government's former secretary of state Kerry is now the climate change affairs special envoy to US president Joe Biden. He had earlier visited Dhaka as secretary of state. He is fully aware of Bangladesh's leadership, politics and diplomacy.
He came to Dhaka to invite prime minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the climate change summit. Joe Biden is returning to the climate deal through this summit of world leaders. Former president Donald Trump withdrew from the deal. John Kerry said an initiative has been taken to create a fund of USD 100 billion to assist the countries affected by the climate change and to reduce the pollution worldwide. He also mentioned that his trip will strengthen ties between two countries.

Applauding Bangladesh for its extraordinary support for hosting 1.1 million Rohingya in the country, John Kerry, the United States’ Special Presidential Envoy for Climate on Friday said that the global community must step up its efforts in resolving the Rohingya crisis as it is not the responsibility of Bangladesh alone.
He came up with the views at a joint briefing in the state guest house Padma after meeting with the foreign minister AK Abdul Momen on Friday.
He said the US president Joe Biden is grateful for the support of Bangladesh towards the Rohingya people.
